In the 2nd area, are they going to be in dense shade or will there be bright indirect light?

What is bright indirect light? filtered light?
It is in the dense shade I think. It is in the shadow of the house. The sun angle is so low in fall and winter.

The north side of my house allows me to grow azaleas, camellias and hydrangeas there in full shade because sunlight hits several inches from the edge of the small shrubs. The shrubs are in the shade always but the area gets a lot of indirect light from the sun. Another example is when you have a cement driveway nearby. If your planting location is now in full shade, can you post a picture. A few hours of sun or filtered sun may be enough for some varieties such as the PJM Series and several native azaleas like as My Mary.

The rhododendrons and azaleas planted on the north side of my house get sun May-August. The house shades them completely in the fall and winter. They all grow well and are covered in bloom. I have a variety of types.

Not every site is equal. In eastern PA conditions are optimal for rhodes and azaleas because of moisture and slightly acid soil.

Thanks for luis and harryshoe's suggestions. I just took a photo of the site now. You guys can see the planting bed is completely in shade now. It is going to be like this until April I think.

I am looking for plants for in front of my house. The area is in the north east . I would like to do some shrubs like hydrangeas and then some maybe astilbe, hosta etc. I'm just not sure if hydrangeas or azaleas would do well in this area. There aren't any trees right near the house but the house itself, porch shade the area the way the sun is. It is a new build the the yard is bare....any ideas??
