I need help identifing this bamboo. It is growing in St. Joseph, MI. I asked the guy that planted it, what it was and he didn't know. He got it from up the road in Benton Harbor. He said that the grove where he got it from had some that topped 20' in height. I have benn searching high and low to find some that I can get. I think I have found it!!! If any of you have any boo that you would mind helping a guy get started that would a great big help also!!! The pics will be on photobucket.com

It is one of the many Phyllostachys. I can't be sure which one though. Someone else may recognize it.

Photos of the new shoots in the Spring would be helpful.

I'll see if I can narrow it down to a few varieties.

Were my pictures helpful? If not, I will be going back up there next week and I could take some more.

Yes. very helpful, but this must be a bamboo that I don't have, or maybe it is different due to location.

What is the diameter of the largest culms, and is 20 feet an accurate measure of the height?

Any compressed nodes at the base of any of the culms?

I'll keep researching it.

The pics are of some transplants that came from a different location, that I said topped out at 20 feet. I will try to talk the guy into letting me see the bamboo that he got these from. Then I will post some more pics of those. If I can get my hands on some of this and you truly don't have this variety would you mind trading me some of your bamboos. I need cold hardy like P. Rubro or P. 'Aureocaulis', Phyllostachys aureosulcata
