Because I want some bamboo it seems to me that some winter protection will help.
When looking at the palm and tropical forms they all seen to have a idear about winter protection so here is mine.
Start with a raised bed 12" high 4x6 build a pvc hoop house thats would be about 8' high.
When fall starts and the tempeture drops put burlap around the pvc frame mulch to about 2'.
As winter progresses add greenhouse plastic to the frame this would give me two layers of wind protection.
I may need to vent on sunny days but I think this will work until the bammboo matures and gets more then the height of the hoop house.
When it gets above 8' hopefully it will survive o.k.,this may allow me to push to zone 6.
If they can grow palm trees in Iowa then maybe there is hope for bamboo.
What do you think?
