bamboo for pots?

hello-

i am trying to find out info on bamboos and wondering if you all had any suggestions.

i wanted to make a long planter box to set on a concrete patio along a fence and put bamboo in it to hide the fence.

here is my question--what is a good height and depth for the planter box and what kind of bamboo would do good in san jose area in full sun.

also--should i put the plants inseparate containers or just plant them in the box?

i now so many questions! but any input at all would be greatly appriecated!

Have you considered tropical CLUMPING bamboo. This would eliminate the need for a planter and still provide a very nice screen for the fence.

Only downside is the expense. You will need more initial starts to form a screen but I think the lack of invasive runners more than makes up for the price...

There are plenty of CA folks around here who could provide guidance on Z9 appropriate species in CA. My guess is that you will have the option of using some really beautiful clumping species.

could be larger than 10' to 20'
