Not sure if my recipe is as complex, but here it goes.......

1. Take bamboo out of pot
2. Stick in ground
3. Relax and watch the bamboo grow.

When one has prairie soil, there isn't much to do with the soil. I mulch in winter and will fertilize with some lawn food.
Remember to check out bambooweb.info , where the others have gone!

Mushroom compost has too much salt content. I'd pass on it.
Best deal for me - Go to recyle center and buy a yard of
garden fines compost for 11 bucks. Mix some aged steer manure (2.35 a bag at ACE Hardware) or free horse manure from a local stable when putting plant in ground. Most expensive (about 7.50 a bag, but best results = FoxFarm planting mix. Rgds)

I rake up the top inch or so of Maine pine forest humus and mix it with sand, compost, and composted manure. It's a nice light weight mixture that drains well yet stays moist

I have tons of clay in my neck o the woods. For in ground plants, equal parts sand (or DG), compost and some type of soil (amended top soil usually). Add some composted chicken maneur (cheap at big box store) and slow release.

For pots, usually 2/3 potting soil and 1/3 sand or DG, and add some chix maneur and slow release to help along.

lkz5ia has the best answer. Amending of small planting areas is not beneficial.

This is my potting mix. Stuff in the yard is just amended with compost.

Wow bboy, totally disagree. Amended a hole about a foot deep and 3 feet across for an Angel Mist...it reached max height of 25 feet in less than 18 months from 3 foot plant. Put one in similar location but didn't amend soil much, and it has merely doubled in a year.

Maybe you aren't soil-challenged like me, but amending soil made HUGE difference.
