I was at the Louisville zoo today and was impressed by the variety and beauty of the bamboo grown there. I would like to grow a row of bamboo as a screen between me and my neighbor. These are my needs:

My soil is lousy red clay.

The area is fairly shady under shagbark hickory and maple.

I want a visual screen so I want a variety that retains a fair amount of the lower leaves.

I want something that stays green through my zone 6 winter.

I like the kind that was by the zebra enclosure. LOL There was no ID on these although there were many plants with ID in the park. I wonder if I could get a start from the zoo?

Any suggestions? Sources?
