Winter Damage Question

The 2013-2014 winter was especially brutal in central Ohio. We have a large, well-established (30+ years) grove of yellow groove bamboo that currently looks very, very sad. The bamboo is about 25-30 feet tall, and much of it is yellow/tan all the way to the ground, although some has retained green color from the ground up to 5-6 feet. The leaves on all the plants are yellowish-tan and dry. In most past winters, our bamboo has remained green, and it often retains many of its leaves from year to year. It's no comfort, but we've noticed all the bamboo plantings in our area look like this.

We have seen that some other folks in our area have "clear-cut" their bamboo already. We have only had about a week of warmer temps, and from what I have read on this forum, we should adopt a wait-and-see attitude, rather than chopping everything down. If this is the case, how long do we wait? Once new culms emerge (which we're hoping they do!), should we remove the older bamboo or leave some of it standing to provide support for the new growth?
