good videos. i really wish now i did a better job protecting my basjoo stems. I had to cut them to the ground but they have already regrown to about 3 feet.

Mike I know from my citrus cold protection, it pays to plan ahead since the weather changes so quickly sometimes.

I was in one of the box stores yesterday looking at insulation materials for winter protection. They have plywood size sheets of Styrofoam type material from a 1/2" to a full 1" thick. These sheets are 4'x8'

It is my plan to take a sheet and cut it into four, one foot wide by eight foot long strips then gluing those back together to form an eight foot tall box about one foot square. This should be quite strong. I will then but it over the tree with a string of C-9s inside. I will leave the top open on the very warm winter days then cover it with like a plastic bag on cold days.

It may be easier to manage by building four foot high boxes then stacking them on the stalk as needed then holding each section together with duct tape.

Thats a great idea. They also make the foam in 2" thick but you may have to go to a more construction specialized store to find it. Have you seen the guy in the palm forum who do this for his trees. He is way up north and it works quite well.
