Yes, I put in a concrete barrier around both my running bamboos and they seem to find every nook and cranny to get out.. I have to patrol my yard and my HOA area outside my fence for any straglers.. I dont think it will ever stop.. I kinda did a half ass job of a barrier but unless you put in a real good barrier it will get out, jump out and keep on going.. Try using a wood stain on or around it.. it seemed to kill half my new growth this year..

oldwriter, had a culm that was seperated from mom pop up in the HOA area just this week, at least 6 ft from the original plant. It came up as a baby. This is from a small segment I crushed, cut mangled the best I could as I could not remove it as it was growing under a HOA tree. I had tried to destroy this one last year as I had 5 3/4 inch culms come up outside my yard. My guess is you will have a massive forest one day if you leave for the spring or move.. same as me but not as bad since for the most part mine is contained in the barrier

It's best to rhizome prune. Snapping off an individual shoot will wipe out that culm, but do nothing about the underground rhizome system that is growing unseen.

I found a big grove of Phyllostachys bissetii bamboo along a two lane highway passing Beedeville AR, and got owner's permission to dig up so bamboos... and while I was there, he took me to the back of his house and there was another kind of unknown Phyllostachys growing a long row about 30 feet long, he dug a small ditch about a foot deep and about a foot wide along the bamboo grove, and the strange thing is there was NOT one bamboo growing across that small ditch! I took some pictures of them and thought to share with you guys... here are some pictures of the ditch and the bamboo

Nope I expect my cheezy lazy attempt at a concrete border will fail in another year or two. Like I said its already broken several areas already and it only the third year. Cant imagine the headaches I will face when it gets 3 inches in diameter.. hopefully it stays away from my koi pond
