I was thinking of planting bamboo to provide some quick screening but, having heard how invasive it can be, I am having second thoughts. IÂd be obliged for comments and suggestions on these points:

ï· How quickly does bamboo grow, starting , say, from a 1 gallon size plant? What variety should I try? The spot I have in mind is fairly shaded.

ï· To control its roots, I am thinking of starting the plant in a large (10 gallon,) plastic container filled with soil that I would place the ground. i.e., not buried. I would monitor the growth and cut the bamboo down if I see the roots breaking through the plastic.

Will that work? Will the plastic container keep the roots from spreading? Is there another approach I should consider? Thanks.
