Saving a bamboo shoot

My husband bought me one of those good-luck bamboos from Walmart about 1.5 years ago. This one was planted in a gel and the only instructions were to water it sparingly and avoid direct sunlight.

It grew quite well for 8 months, then we moved. I don't know what happened to it, but it slowly started to die - after a while, all the new growth was quite dead. Though I tried to care for it and save it, I eventually thought to bid it farewell.

I was going to throw it away, but decided to remove all the dead and keep the 2" that were still alive.

So, I watered and cared for that 2" - it rooted a bit, grew a new leafe and looked like it was doing well.

But, a few months ago it stopped growing. Now, though, it's started dying, again.

Should I plant it in dirt to save it? Re-pot it?
