Do you have a species name? "Zig-zag bamboo" could be a number of things, but most likely Phyllostachys aureosulcata...which tops out at about 45 feet. Very few bamboo stay 2-4 feet tall, and I doubt that Lowe's would be carrying those species.

The species name of the boo is SHIBATAEA CHINENSIS. Ever heard of this? As you can tell I know very little about bamboo, just learning.

Pyllostachys flexuosa is referred to as "zig zag" bamboo. It grows 30' tall.

SHIBATAEA CHINENSIS should only get 2 feet tall. Do the leaves look like the photos in the link?

Here is a link that might be useful: SHIBATAEA CHINENSIS Photos

Thanks so much for the help. No the leaves do not look like the ones in the picture. I think it has grown 2 inches sitting on my porch in the pot. I am almost afraid to put it in my yard. The picture on the tag looks just like the one in the link and it says mature plant height 2feet.

How about posting a couple of pictures of what you have? Whole plant, plus closeups of leaves and of culms.

would love to but do not have camera or know how. I know I am way behind time.
