I found some bamboo growing in Santa Monica, CA and took a start back to Chicago. It has been growing indoors all winter and has now started to put up some new shoots while outside this spring/summer.

I don't know what type of bamboo it is, but the original plant was about 15 feet tall. I'm trying to identify it and/or understand the light/water requirements for it.

One of the new shoots was up for only about 3 weeks when the leaves died. Not sure if I'm giving it too much sun or what. A new shoot is coming up in it's place.
