Some shoot a few in the fall or after a serious rainy spell but they tend to winterkill.

Aurea tends to shoot all summer. Viridis here usually has a second shooting in July and keeps going until frost; I don't know if that is normal for the species, but it has done so 3 years in a row for me.

My bisseti seems to have done all its shooting for the year. Thanks to the cool wet spring we had here, however, one of my small nudas hasn't shooted (shot?) yet. It's sending out new leaves, so perhaps shoots will follow in late June and July. Another nuda I bought in April has shoots that haven't grown any in two months but haven't withered either. They are still in B&B and maybe are waiting to get planted before they continue development. Decora is shooting now and started a couple weeks ago. A new rubro arrived with shoots in April and might still be making new ones.

I just noticed my Rubro from Lewis in January has 2 shoots just now emerging right next to the mother culms. They are double width. I haven't checked 50 yards out to see if anything else popped up. ;)

correction: I see this Monday morning that my Ph. vivax is pushing by new culms somewhat larger than the ones it put in in March.

My containered (35-gal) Ph. rubro's aren't putting up any more new culms now but a few rhizome "purse" handles have appeared and rhizomes are hitting the side of the containers then up into the air, indicating plenty of activity "downstairs", which is being fueled by ....

The new foliage of the Ph. rubro's is now so thick and dark green that I can barely see the containers. Ph. rubro is one extremely agressive species.

I visited a wild Ph aurea grove two lots over. A lot of the big shoots of March that I posted here have aborted, but quite a few 1.5 inches culms did make it. There are a few more fresh culms coming up now, but not as numerous as March.

My P. Nigra Hale just pushed up another one about 1 week ago.

Since I started this thread, my Ph. vivax has put up 3 x 3/4" shoots. Giving it plenty of water and some fert. Daily temp range is now 75F - 95F.

(B. tuldoides is going nuts with 10+ 1" culms after 12 months in the ground. If last year's shooting period is repeated, it should shoot until November)

My 'spectabilis' has put up two shoots in the past couple of days.
