Phyllostachys edulis

I can get 10 grams of ( fresh ) seed for Phyllostachys edulis for $32 and I probably have a sufficent background to grow it...

Now, would it be a good choice for lining a drive in south Texas . I know it's spreading , but it's a farm . My question is : has anyone any first hand experience with growing it from seed and or growing it in the deep south. Other choices mentioned (like b.oldhamii) are just sooooooo expensive
