Pruning clumping bamboo

I have clumping dwarf blue bamboo (Himalayacalamus hookerianus 'falcatus'). As the culms grow, I find they arch or sag way too much. Is there a "right" way to prune/cut back the culms so that the plant isn't damaged? I like a cleaner/neater look to bamboo so I'm wondering how to clean these guys up a bit.
