the myoporum needs moist soil and you said the area doesn't get much water, check out the site below on iceplant and maybe go look at actually plants of both types to see which would look best in your spot.

The Texas native Phyla incisa aka Frogfruit is really a low maintenance, fast-spreading groundcover. It is related to lantana and the little flower heads attract hoards of tiny butterflies. I planted it for erosion control on a slope, full sun, zone 8. It has fulfilled its role nicely and is as tough as nails, however, I intend to pull some up as it is encroaching into areas where it isn't welcome.
It is extremely drought-tolerant and will bloom all summer if watered occasionally. It really blocks the weeds and will also smother desirable plants, so you have to keep an eye out for that. It is a short plant, so it maintains a fairly tidy appearance. I typically water my well-established patch every 2-3 weeks... less if we been blessed with rain.

i like aptenia cordifolia, takes full sun, doesn't need a lot of water and always looks lush.

I was recently gifted some seed of Frogfruit. I'm concerned that it will freeze out during my winters (zone 8-1/7-b). Might you know if it will reseed reliably so if it does freeze out, new plants will possibly germinate the following spring?
