Nice looking plants! The containers are smaller than what I would have guessed a plant that size would need. It looks like they are doing well though.

I like the pruning job Brad. Now I need to go see what I can do with mine. I agree they are kind of a pain compared to in-ground plants.

I had a P. a. 'Holochrysa' indoors last winter and it was outgrowing its pot so quickly I needed to water it everyday. By spring, I got tired of watering and planted it outside. Now it's so big I guess it deserves to have a go at it outside this winter. This is about as vigorous a species I've grown thus far but now I have some Dendro seedlings that may even exceed the aurea. They are nearly 6' tall and just over a year old. Hmm... and I thought I'd keep them as houseplants. What was I thinking?

I'm about to pot up a nigra. any suggestions on what soil mixture you guys use in those beautiful potted plants.

Physostachys aurea - in a container, and my faithful K9 - not in a container.

My nigra hated being in a pot. Hated the sun, the shade, the alkaline san diego soil and alkaline water too. Its growing great in the grown though on drip. Tempted to try again sometime maybe in full peatmoss and watered with r/o water only. Many other boos don't mind the soil/water here. Anyone else find that about nigra.
BTW I'm in San Diego.
