if it was a newer culm that was dug, then chances are that you still have a viable rhizome that will continue to grow and probably put out new shoots in the next two growing seasons. it all depends on how much energy it has to spend developing new roots and warding off its double transplant shock. good luck, be patient and enjoy it as it grows.

That small shoot that came up and died was most likely from an orphaned rhizome that got transplanted with the rootball and not produced by the rhizome attached to your transplanted culm(s).
