year 1----sleeps
year 2----creeps
year 3 ---LEAPS!..for the most part..sure bamboo will send rhizomes a few feet away from mother,but in simple language if your bamboo can grow 20--30===or 60 feet tall it can send out a runner under ground that far away!...it can be neat but also scary lol depending where you live or have your boo planted.
