Another Rainbow Bridge crossing

This weekend we lost our big brown dog, our dearly loved Corie-Boy. The naughty dogs jumped out the guest room window when we were all busy with the family all home, and we did not miss them until dog walking time. Only later figured it out. Anyhow, the little bratty beagle came home at midnight. Corie usually was dead tired within two hours, so tired he was unable to get up to even get a drink until he had rested a while....but this time he did not come. I called the vets office, and the Pet-Protector people, and they told me to call the county animal control people. Well, I AM pretty sure that he was the "brown male lab mix dog (Actually a chocolate flat coat with a docked tail) at 240th and -- in the unincorporated county...We live on 248th, and he was found, already deceased on Sunday morning.

I knew that the end would come soon for him, and that is why I ordered my Gordon Setter puppy. Corie was 13 1/2, and starting to have trouble getting his back legs up steps from the yard.I knew that a time would come this year when we would have to make that last visit to the vets office...COrie took matters in his own hands and took himself off on a last great adventure. I do not know whether he was hit or whether his old heart just gave out, but now I know he did not suffer for long, and is not waiting for us to find him. I will miss him...my big brown teddy bear of a dog, with the sweetest disposition and severe "seperation anxiety", from his Mama!

It looks like we will make a trip to pick up Josie this weekend...on to a new chapter in our life with dogs. And my son Zach arrives home in 2 days and can take over care of his little beagle, while I devote my dog time to Miss Josie.

She will inherit the indoor kennel that we bought for our first Gordie, (I kept trying to buy one for her but could not figure out were to put another in the house...weird!) And so, like a beautiful flower, Corie is just a memory and some photographs now, and the new "flower" is growing and ready to come in and bloom with us. We love our flowers. We love our pets. THey fade and make room for new loves in our lives, but they leave such beautiful memories. I wish I could have told him goodbye.

Lizalily, I'm so sorry about your loss. I feel your pain. Been there several times, and wish there was something terribly conforting I could say to you, but time will just run its course and each day will bring a little more healing and peace. It's a terrible thing to bear, but it's part of life. You just have to remember all the joy he brought to your life. Your new little Josie will take a lot of care and will bring brightness into your life again. Our old friends pass and it gives us a chance to make new friends. We lost our Sammy (Shepherd/Malamute) at 13-1/2 to lymphoma and it was just terrible at first, but now we have Tala (Shepherd/Malamute/Wolf) and Debo (white blue-eyed Husky). Of course, they never took Sammy's place, but fill our lives with new and different things in a different way. ((Hugs)) Kitty

Lizalily, my dear... I feel what you feel, having just experienced this same tragedy... if you could see me right now, you'd think I just lost another "best friend"... my heart goes out to you...

Corie and Emma are now in His hands, getting to know each other, chasing bunnies and laying in the perpetual sunshine of heaven. They have no pain, they are at peace, and their memories will live on in our hearts...

No other pets can replace those two lovable little creatures, but Maia and Josie will do their very best to step up and help us forget the sadness that comes with loss.

Dogs are so intuitive... Maia has been incredibly wonderful since Emma's passing... and I know that the moment you hold Josie in your arms for the first time, there will be an understanding you and I cannot fathom... and Josie will know exactly what needs to be done to make you smile...

I'm so sorry, Lizalily... if I could reach through this monitor and hug you, you know I would...

    Liza,
Maybe your Corie knew what was waiting for him that day and he wanted to hide away and fall asleep peacefully. I have heard of so many friends who did that. I'm glad that you are getting your new puppy very soon, so you can pour all your love on the little rascal instead of sitting sad and thinking over your loss. Better days for you.

Soultan, I think you are exactly right. I drove down to the area today...really was not familiar with it, and it is a wonderful area for a dog...down a steep canyon on a wide curving road, among tall trees that make cool shadows and flickering sunlight, to a beach rich in smells and sealife and beautifully kept older summer homes. If I were designing a doggie heaven I think it would look just like this!

I have been reading my puppy training book today, and also got a confirmation fromt he breeder that they would expect us on Saturday, so the love is starting to bubble up in my for my long awaited puppy. Corie has released the love to grow and be born again.

    Lizalily,
Be sure and post some photos of the new puppy. I am glad that Norm is letting you come to pick up Josie. Be prepared to be overwhelmed by a sea of black and tan (with a little white thrown in for measure!!). Can't wait to see her. I'll be off-line until the 11th, so don't think I'm not replying. I'm off fishing in the Rocky Mountains!

Soultan is right... most animals know when their time is nearing its end... and if they can, many will go off to find a quiet, private place for their passing... I'm very glad Corie found such a lovely place.

Please, LIzalily, do share photos of your new little one... I'm excited to see and "meet" Josie!
