Put your bee suit on, get the chainsaw out and cut the tree trunk/stump so that you can sit a regular Langstroth nuc or super over the main cluster of bees. Since the bees hate the "new orientation" of the honeycomb cells, they'll take the first opportunity to drawn out new comb that's orientated correctly against gravity (in other words, they'll move up in short order). As soon as you see that you've got the queen laying eggs in your hive box, you've accomplished your objective - take 'em away!

On the off chance that the comb is exposed, you can smoke it, carefully vacuum off the bees, transfer the comb to frames (an arduous job) the pour the bees over the frames.

This is rarely possible, but I had such a tree this week. Removal from the tree was as easy as removal from a wall.
