should I give up?

Hi! I'm completely new to bananas (obviously...) I received some musa velutina seeds in a trade here on gw and have sown two to see what works and what doesn't. I sowed the seeds on 8/13 and keep them in a small plastic container which I water regularly and keep on top of my refridgerator. Nothing yet. I read that some can take several months to germinate. I keep a tupperware type lid just set on top, not snapped on, sort of cock-eyed on it to help with humidity but still allow for some ventilation. Is it time to try something different with the remaining seeds, or should I keep waiting? And stop laughing at me...lol

Keep waiting. If you are keeping them warm and moist they should sprout.

Okay, thanks! I'm pretty excited at the idea it might actually work! lol
I'll be sure to let everybody know if I'm successful; you may even hear me hollering all the way from here in California! hehehe

Oh yes, keep waiting. Musa's can take up to 6 months(even then I would wait some more) especially if conditions aren
t exactly right. What exactly is your temp on the frig? Mine sprouted quite early(much better than I expected) but it was 95* during the day and mid 70's at night. Since I had 9 different varieties sprout I'd say that is a good temp for them but most importantly is to have the cooler temps at night. Remove them from the frig then at least.

well, I've had some of the same seeds since about may on my patio. As you said bananalover, with ALMOST perfect conditions (this is south Florida after all!) and nada, zilch so far. I finally couldn't take looking at the empty pot and put a geranium in it figuring I would easily be able to identify the bananas in that. Might have something to do with the freshness of the seeds? I haven't given up either...yet....
