can I get rid of knob "ghost" on Maple cabinets
Comments (11)Thanks OB - I may still be using them if I can't solve the ghosting problem without having to refinish the doors. I love the elegant art nouveau look of the first one and the bronzey finish goes a bit better with everything else I have going on but having a little circle at the bottom of each pull is kind of a deal killer. The Amerock pulls are 3" CTC so probably 4+ overall. The knobs pictured below (8 of the 31 pc are knobs) are about 1" at the widest point. I paid $7+ for the big pulls. They are solid and heavy and they have more detailing than you can see in the picture. They are really nice. If I do sell them I will just try to cover the costs of the replacements, which are less expensive. I might use the small pulls below intended for the drawers for the tiny cabinets above the microwave and fridge and buy 4 more of the big pulls and put them horizontal on the drawer fronts. Or I found an inexpensive large swoopy cup pull that I might use for the drawers....See MoreI have no idea how to get started getting rid of stuff. Comments (9)I think you do know how. However, here are some helps to get started: Get three boxes. If you have not used an item in over a year, put it in one of them. If you hate the object, no matter that it was given to you, put it in that same box. If it is no longer your style or useful, put it in there. If it is broken, put it in another box. This will house junk items and you can throw them all out in the trash or recycling at the end of the exercise. Then, set one of the boxes up to house what you are not sure of. Things that are in good shape but that you might be tired of, have outlived their use, or might be useful to someone else who might enjoy them. Give yourself a limited time to think about these things; say three days or a week. No more. If you really cannot think to use them; either donate or throw them out or sell in a garage sale. You would be surprised what you can pare down this way. Try it....See MoreAnts!! - How do you get rid of them?
Comments (75)I have had three ant invasions, fortunately tiny ones, over the last ten years. (I became fanatical after the last one and haven't had one in more than 3-4 years now.) There are two parts to my success: Part 1: Dawn dishwashing liquid, the blue one. That kills them instantly and also wipes out their scent trails. I wet down paper towels, put the dishwashing liquid on them and placed them on the trail. I also just poured the liquid directly on them and around the food they were after. It took a few days before they were never seen again. Part 2: Fanatical, absolutely fanatical, no-exceptions-whatsoever rules were put in place. Everything must be in canning jars, locking storage, the refrigerator or freezer. Cats are fed in their glass pie plates but the food, both soft and hard, stays down only for a limited period of time. This means I am feeding them more often, several times a day plus I always wipe the floor around the bowls with either soap and water or vinegar to catch any fallen bits of food. The water bowl is changed out daily but without food to attract the ants it seems to be left alone. Human food or drink, including water, is not allowed anywhere except in the kitchen or dining room. This includes bottled water if guests bring any. Some of these measures may seem extreme but they're not, really. And I am completely free of ants....See MoreMost Loathed item you WANT to get rid of but can't?
Comments (253)When we sold the farm I wanted to buy a townhouse (let someone else cut the grass and clear the snow, only a tiny garden for me). But hubby wanted to bring his tractor. So we bought a city house with a big yard. He still gets to use the riding mower and I still have to look after the huge gardens. He has a storage container with farm stuff he'll never use again - and the tractor! You can take the farmer out of the country, but you can't take away his stuff!...See Moremaddalfred
