Oil worked great for ridding my plants of mealy bugs and spider mites.

Ultrafine Oil Spray. Spray several times each year.

I have some Cygone 2E you can have. It has been off the market for a few years but I have been finding some at the Nanaimo recycling exchange. Let me know if you want some.

Gee ... Thanks Morris. I do have some Laters - Latox left over but it likely won't do the next season. How's that bamboo estate of yours doing? Which reminds me, I do have some bamboo you may be interested in. I'll give you a call.

Cheers, Barrie.

Sorry, I also meant to thank Thuja and Eric for their input as well.

Cheers, Barrie.

Barrie, I use good old insecticidal soap to contol bamboo mites. You can completely eliminate bamboo mite with just one application IF YOU DO IT IN THE FALL (sorry for the caps but that is key!!!)... and if you cover the undersides of ALL the leaves. This year I'm doing two applications just to be safe. It's not practical for large groves, but works great for potted plants. Winter might work too.... it's spring and summer when they seem to be able to bounce right back after you spray them with something.

Thanks Ian. The bamboo I'm most concerned with is P. bambusoides and is now 20 feet tall. The mites seem to be present under fine webbing on the undersides of the leaves. Will the insecticical soap penetrate this webbing? I guess a good dousing is the best bet here...I have a 2 gallon sprayer that should hold enough.

Cheers, Barrie.

another plus for living in "frozen hell"....
no bamboo mite problems. Even if we would get them from someone elses division, they won't make it through winter.

Las_Palmas_Norte,
good luck with your problem, and let us know what you use and how it works....

Rick

Rick-- Yep, there's always a bright side. The bugs I sprayed came in on plants I bought from outside the frozen hell zone. I even had termites in one rootball which I'd never seen before either. I'm guessing that the termites are now at war with my centipedes until winter arrives, at which time I think the war will be over.
