I planted a two gallon pot early one Spring, the following Spring it put up some shoots over 20 feet away. It is very aggressive here. Soil type, amount of water, and climate all play a part in how fast it will spread.

Wow, that's a nice size area. It'll look great in 5-7years...

I have a plant in ground fo 5 years that has not spread. Has maybe six 2" culms. I believe it is eing restricted by the root system of my eucalyptus. Go figure.

Growth is highly variable depending on climate and many growing factors. However, if you want a grove in the next 5 years, in that large an area (or even part of it), you need more than a 1-gallon plant.

It'll take several years for a one gallon to spread and shoot enough to make a good grove. For the same area I would have purchased at least 5 or 6 five gallon plants minimum and only waited 5 years. If you have patience anything is possible with just a one gallon. Good luck!

Post says 100 x 100 yards, not feet. That's a football field long and wide. 5 plants, 5 years. I don't think so. Way too optimistic.

You are right, I missed that. I was thinking 100 feet not yards. That's a huge area........

It's just over 2 acres. That's enough space to have groves of several different species. A great big pond would be nice.

Apparently, mshaffer has plenty of land.
