Hi, I currently have 2 interconnecting ponds. Water is pummped about 12 feet away from the pond to a 55gallon drum biological filter and returns to the pond by means of a stream. I would like to add a bog garden. My plan is to get the largest rubbermaid tote I can find, add bulkhead fittings at each end. I will then divert some of the water being pumped to the filter and let this diverted water flow thru a valve (to control the flow) and enter the bog garden through one of the bulkhead fittings. The water will exit the bog garden through the bulkhead fitting at the other end of the rubbermaid tote and return thru a pipe to one of the ponds. The bog will be outside the pond and basically in parallel with the stream.

I have some questions which I hope people on this forum can help me with.

1) Should the bulkhead fitting bringing the water into the bog be at the top of the tote end wall or at the bottom or somewhere in between?

2) Same question about the bulkhead fitting @ the other end of the tote. ie where to place the bulkhead fitting.

3) I was thinking of putting a mixture of gravel, garden soil mixed with clay soil in the bog to plant the plants. Any other suggestions - I don't want peat in the bog as I'm afraid this may upset the pH in the pond.

Any other suggestions would be welcome.
