A Surprise

Last evening I decided I would empty some "unsprouted" winter sown jugs. A few had a plant or two in them. One I had planted some candy lily seeds and in it I found one plant. The other was this jug in which I had planted blackberry lily seeds.

I have clay soil and always add the potting soil to my gardens.

I don't think I ever planted winter sown plants from my jugs the end of July.

Congratulations on your unexpected arrival Don!! I'm growing them for the first time this year from traded seeds and the foliage is just gorgeous. The dry, hot summer didn't bother the plants I'm growing in containers but the plants in the ground didn't fare as well. The fact they survived at all tells me they're hardy little plants.

I just potted up Lobelia cardinalis I summer sowed. I kept the jugs in the shade and set them in a cookie sheet so I could bottom water them. There are SO many things I'm itching to WS this coming cold season!

Ya, I never thought I would be excited for winter to come just so I can winter sow a bunch of seeds...lol!
