Hi, yes they are seed pods - the ovary is behind the bloom where the seeds are. The male flowers are the ones that don't have those - of course : ) - but if you have a male flower with pollen you can cross it back on itself, or on another begonia with females flowers.
They take a while to ripen, the pod turns brown and papery. The seeds are very tiny, dustlike, and are fun to grow to see what you might get. Karan

Thanks, Karan. I have never had these appear on my other begonias. I have many other varieties so I will have to see what happens....or I might experiment!
I just looked some other plants, and they have the seeds pods as well, but are different containers.

Hi, You are welcome. I have been getting begonias this year that I have never seen. I got some beautiful cuttings from Greg Sytch in Florida, Babraba Hamilton, Fergie and others - some had flowers on them that I took off before starting them and they are doing well so I will have flowers next year. Brad Thompson has a good begonia web-site with lots of information on growing from seed and other cultural needs. Karan

Karan, how do you tell if the male flowers have pollen? I have non-stops that have both male and female flowers and am curious to see what I'd get from seeds.
