Martha,
Remember you want good drainage. Make sure the pot has good drainage holes and add some sand to your mix. You don't want the soil to really hold too much moisture, or you'll get rot.

You got your bulbs to bloom last year so I expect no less than success from you this year. Post photos when they bloom!!

I have a question, my baby bulb that is growing now, will it bloom this year or not? The parent plant is doing fantastic and if the baby does as well I will have one heck of a flower display! There are so many things coming up from the neck I can't tell yet what is leaves and what is scapes! I will take pictures when I find out. But please let me know if the baby will bloom or not.

Nopets, your baby bulb probably isn't large enough to produce flowers this year. Do you recall how many leaves the baby bulb produced last year? Sometimes the number of leaves is an indicator of whether the bulb received enough nutrients/light to be ready to bloom the next year.

I don't know, it was already on the parent bulb when my hubby bought it, I did not have any sucess with mine after I put them in the garden, they contacted mosaic virus and I had to throw them away. The ones I have now is new.

This is the other amaryllis, the Star of Holland, it is not doing anything, would it hurt it if I opened the neck up a little? It looks like there is no room for the leaves to come up, it looks like it is sealed. Any advice would be welcome.

The bulb is fine. You are fussing too much over it!!
Now just wait for scapes!!!

Regarding the baby bulb... Unless it's nearly as big as the bigger bulb, it likely won't give you blooms for at least another year. Main bulb will bloom, but getting a 2'fer is unlikely!!

I am sorry, I looked at it closer and I can see green coming up. I thought I had gotten some patience, but when it comes to flowers, I do fuss over them too much!

It's only been a year!! You got a little more patience!! Maybe we'll only see 83 scape photos this year!!! :-) it's exciting and hard to sit on your hands.

I am now officially on "scape watch" on both bulbs, here are the pictures for now and no more until they bloom!

That one is the Star of Holland and this one is the Apple Blossom.

If the leaves are turning yellow (it could just be the photo) they need more light!! Can't wait til you see blooms!!

Do you think this will straighten up if kept under the flourescent light? It is a Minerva that my hubby got me today, so here's hoping it will.

This is the bulb that was bent over, it has straightened up nicely and also has greened up too. I am going to have blooms for quite awhile with 3 of them.

This is the bulb that I asked you about before, it has grown some and now it looks like it is getting ready to bloom, it has started to open up! If it does it will be the shortest stems that I have ever had, no complaints though, just am glad it is growing. The first picture is just the bulb and the second is the height it is now.

Here is the entire plant it is a short one but if the blooms are as big as they normally are, it will be very interesting to see.

Many of us have posted buds opening in the necks of the bulbs...so you'll be in good company. Let's see...the shortest you've EVER had...and you've had....???? 4 bulbs??!!! I'm busting a gut laughing, Martha!!

This is the one that is supposed to be Apple Blossom, as yoou can see, it is opening up! The short one is still growing and it has a opened place too, but it is not as short as it was before.

Aren't amaryllis a lot of fun to grow? Nopets, I think your scapes will gain a reasonable "altitude" before they bloom. They look GREAT!

Can someone tell me if these are really going to be Apple Blossom? I looked at some pictures of red lion that I had last year and these do not look that way, not fussing or obssessing, just mildly curious.

Martha, you can't be sure of the ID until the bloom opens. There are many blooms with similar coloration to Apple Blossom. Sometime the difference is as subtle as markings in the bloom's throat. Until you can see the color of the bloom (not the backside) and the markings in the throat, you can't be sure of the ID.

I'm afraid you just need to wait!
I can assure you that this IS NOT Red Lion...! (You suggest that is a concern)

No it was not a concern, I had some other times and the box was marked incorrectly, it was marked apple blossom but it was red lion. I don't really care, I just wanted some other color besides red. The leaves are almost as high as the scape. My neighbor gave me as a late christmas gift, so it says it is striped but the box has no name for it.

Ok...I can pretty much guarantee it's not Red Lion!! The back side of Red Lions are red!! If this one says striped...does it show a red with white stripes or pink with white stripes? Honestly Martha, growers don't really care what they put in the box...the guarantee is only that it blooms, right? I wouldn't consider Apple Blossom to be striped. Typically when it says striped, you get a base color with a white star or stripes.

Looking forward to photos of blooms. I hope these bulbs are healthy. Many of the box kit bulbs aren't healthy, root, night and even MV. Likely the bulb that you threw out last year came with it. Sad, right?

I am not sure, the one that is called Star of Holland it is doing quite well, it might be the next one, not sure though. It is anyone's guess. But she was worth the wait.
