Plunk and Run!

Probably a bit early for this thread, but I thought after this growing season comes to an end, those of us who plunk and run can look back and chuckle. The success of winter sowing puts me in a position with a ton of plants and a short window to plant them in (I over do it every year).

So, it's plunk and run time - even in the fall. I can still see the milk jug shape outline in some plant clusters where they've been growing for several years. I left the description up to you.

Do YOU plunk and run come planting time?

Yes, I do. I have about 5 milk jugs left on the deck. I am plunking and running today. : )

Plunk and run? Is that like where you just plant the whole jug without regard for hunk-o-seed spacing?

I have some Red Hot Pokers left that I am hesitant to put in the ground. As it is, I might be Zone-stretching by growing them here (some sites list it as hardy to Zone 5 while others list it as Zone 6 hardy only)
I think I'm going to let them stay in a container on the porch.
I still have some de-labeled containers that I need to dump, in prep for the new WSing season.

Oh! And I thought it was just me being overly ambitious when I winter sow! Yes, I do this--hence the cottage garden theme! And no matter how hard I try to be organized and 'plan' my garden....well, you know. I usually have such a high rate of success that I have no idea where to put everything! My friends aren't nearly as interested in gardening as I am...(thought about trading 'them' in...lol)
And I am not one of those who can 'thin my seedlings'. Feel like I'm killing my babies! ;0
Sometimes, I don't get to containers quick enough, or they get forgotten and a few of the seedlings don't make it. Later, long after I've dumped the container into a bed (can't waste anything!) more of the seeds germinate. Then I find my increasingly senile self--wondering where they came from! (Sigh)

I balance it all out in the fall by moving everything that needs it. (Okay, mostly...)
Just another excuse to have my hands in the dirt...therefore extending MY season!

But don't you enjoy the surprises that bloom from last year's "dumps"? I know I do. Sometimes, they turn out to make an area more beautiful than anything I could've planned. Or they turn out looking so nice, I say to myself, "Gee, I'm glad I sowed that!"
There's a benefit to being a "clueless gardener"...lol.

I do, Linda! I've always been so bad about 'planning' combinations. Seems like a lot of my 'plunk and run's' turn out to be really nice combos, though!
