Poor little fishies!

My dog is a 150 lb Newfoundland (looks like a black St Bernard) & loves to swim. Especially in the spring when the 90 gallon pond thaws out & she can play in the disgusting water with all the chipmunks that drowned since last fall. It is her personal challenge to drink or splash as much of the water from it as she can.

It is hard to train a dog to put it's head under water if it doesn't naturally like to do it. You should train him to swim & retrieve baskets of things from underwater.

Lol, she likes to go to the lake and chase the bait in the shallow water and we throw the ball way out and she swims out to get it. She hasn't been in the boat. If she fell out we would never get her back in, lol. The devil dog goes fishing with us and likes to eat the bait too. They got new Easter bunnies from the dollar tree to play with today, lol. They all love to kill the stuffed animals and pull the stuffing out. I don't mind paying a dollar for them to get a couple of hours of amusement, lol.

Bailey jumps in my pond as well. She's not allowed in the pool so she figures it's the next best thing. She doesn't chase my fish (I don't think) but she does disrupt all my water plants.

My dog likes to swim, (or used to when he was younger - now he just wades) but he doesn't fish.

Krisy. cute dog.she can fish better than some people. I have seen fishing. her color reminds me of a dobbie I use to have she didn't fish but she would sure argue with me when I let her run through the yard she would run through my garden she wouldn't bother my veggies but she would lay flat down on hubbies peppers when I repremanded her she would make this sound like she was arguing with me your dog is really cute. plantlover49

Cute video! I've got to say Mercedes was persistent in her 'fishing' mode! lol! And your hubby - shame on him for encouraging her & then telling her to STOP - just when she was getting her 'treats' all lined up! :) You do know they make doggie biscuits, snacks & treats - right?? lol!

I have a terrier/chow chow. Everytime he manages to get out of the yard, i find him laying inside of my neighbor's pond or playing with someone's sprinklers. He just loves to play with water, especially when we're in mid-summer. If I had a pond with fish, i would probably find him laying inside with the fish. lol

My other dog, a chihuaha/duchshund mix, is so scared of water, we runs and hides under my lemon tree/shrub when he hears the water hose turned on. it's actually kind of funny. Then i have to drag him out from under the tree to give him a shower.

Lol, I'm glad you all enjoyed the video and yes my husband was dreadfully encouraging her until he realized she was going to take out all his bait for fishing the next day, lol. She didn't eat them she just liked to catch them. My other dog likes to eat them. They love those denta stix from pedigree and they do get snacks, lol. When I first got my tropical fish tank it took her months to quit smashing her nose into the tank trying to catch them. She is a full blooded doberman but John didn't have the heart to get her ears cut when she was a pup and she is getting fat with old age and the tumor in her belly. That is the perkiest I had seen her in a long time. She is on some new medication and it seems to be making her feel a lot more frisky. I don't know why but fish and flashlight beams drive here insane, lol.

Really funny.

Really cute! I used to have a pomeranian that thought he was a fishing dog and not a fufu house dog! All I had to do was say "fishing!!" and he would be at the door barking and trying to get out. His job (he thought) was to pull the stringer into the shoreline when he thought the fish were getting a little rowdy i.e. flopping around etc. He liked going out in the boat too. That dog traveled all over the US with us.
Now we have a half grown black lab pup who won't stay out of the water. Unless we put her on a leash, she will dive in after the fish, fishing bait when we cast the reel etc.!
