My Very First Cactus

I've grown different succulents for about 30 years. Adeniums by far are my favorite. 6 years ago while selling plants at a farmers market, my dear wife traded a small Adenium for a cactus. I was quietly irritated she would trade a perfectly good Adenium for a little spined green ball. It was banished to the back of the greenhouse until the next spring when it bloomed. I instantly became a cactus fan. This is the only one I have that has not been grown from seed.

This Echinopsis multiplex hybrid is about 7" in diameter.

Now, aren't you glad your wife did that? That is a beauty.

Your wife made a good choice. I'm curious though, do you really grow everything else you have from seed? That's impressive.

I have learned over time to keep initial concerns to myself. She has good instincts.

Yes, all of my cactus are seed grown, but my collection is rather small. I've always had a passion for propagating. It's a lot more fun when it's your plant from the start. Well, at least in my mind.

I just realized I lied to you. I have saved a few offsets off this plant :-).
