Winter ?? What winter ...photos

Hi everyone,

It would seem that everywhere else in Australia has had a winter besides us in northern Australia. The broms are looking okay but not as good as they should be at this time of the year. My neo's, which normally should be starting to flower have been delayed i am sure because of the lack of cool weather. I have taken a couple of photos of the garden and some seedlings anyway.

    marleneann,
Good to hear from you. I would have a guess and say your neo is imperfecta or Lava.

    Hi Dooley,

That's a nice garden of beaut brom's you have there in Queensland's sunny winter. Is that massive shadehouse in the background of the second last pic. yours also? If so, how about a peek inside as a break from the winter gloom down south?

Thanks for sharing, all the best, Nev.

    Dooley,

I see now why Serendipity Girl is so sought after, you have a great looking garden and some lovely Neos.

Orange Sun looks pretty sun hardy - I'll have to try a cross or two with Noble Descent, I'm suprised there isn't a few more on FCBS.

    Thanks,

    Rick

    Dooley,
You've got some interesting seedlings coming along there.
The mamoration in the Maya x braz-el seedlings is awesome and I particularly like that bottom right brom from your Swagger x Barbarian seedlings.

And as Nev has said, I too would love to see more pictures of your garden/shade house. I can never get enough of seeing garden pics. Your mossy rock wall looks great amoungst the broms and ferns.

    Hi Nev,
The bush house is not massive, i wish it was!! although it is sort of like the tardis from doctor who, as it seems bigger when you go in. The first 4 pics were taken inside the bush house. The rest are smaller seedlings just devolping colour. There may be another photo or 2 i'll see.
    Thanks
    Dooley.

Dooley, what is the other parent in the Purple star cross in your last photo? That has a nice look to it.

    Hi Lisa,
Regarding purple star i have a one or two that may be the pollen parent but will wait until it flowers to be sure. Depending on mature size i think it will be lamberts pride or patchwork.

Nice work Dooley. Sure to be a few nice ones come out of them ! What did you cross 'Rainbow' with and how old are the seedlings shown ?
    Cheers

    Hi Dooley,

Just curious about the pollen parent of the Red Macaw seedling as they all look very similar in markings. Can you tell us who he was?

    All the best, Nev.

    Hi everyone,

Sorry about my stuff up with the similar posts. When I submitted the initial post, GW told me it was rejected until I changed the subject name (which I did). When I submitted it again they both came up. Bl..dy computers, I'll never come to terms with them.

    All the best Nev.

    Hi everyone,
Graeme and Nev the reason i have not put pollen parent with the photos is that my first seedlings i hyridized i used 2/3 pollen parents. Since then i have learnt not to do this and stick to one pollen parent as you have more of an idea what you seedling will turn out to be.
    Rainbow seedling possibilities-
    Jester or High Tide
    Red macaw seedlings-
moby dick, smithii or speckled creation.
    Thanks
    Dooley.

Aha, thanks for that Dooley...I see you are likely referring to the 'Smythe's Rainbow' - not the carcharodon variety.
Had me going there for a bit !!...Hope they go well for you.
    Cheers

    Dooley,

Your method of only pollinating with one pollen parent is pretty reliable however if you were short of mother plants and wanted to try a few differant pollen crosses - you could use a tag system. There have been a number of ideas put up here including straws, fishing line with knots/colour or my favourite plastic tags with a number or the pollen parent written on it.

Some failures that can occur, the tag can fall out or the writing can fade or wear off.
