First egg...Things heating up!

I went to get some leaf mould from the local collective, and checked some wild milkweed along the way, found nothing. I took the long way home and hit a few more spots, Nothing!

On my way to my last stop, I noticed there were more Cabbage Whites around, and alot more nectar flowers starting to bloom.

The last stop before giving up and going home, at the only place I've seen a Monarch this year, Bingo!

I found My first Monarch egg of the year! WOO-Hoo!

I tried to get a pic to post, but I don't have a macro lens.

I got home and my neighbor stopped me, while talking to her, I noticed a butterfly flitting about my yarrow, couldn't get there in time to see what it was. I think it was a Hackberry, or maybe a fritilliary...Not sure which.

Time to set up my enclosure!!!

Yeah, for you. I know how exciting it is to find your first egg! I have at least 14 catepillars now with lots of eggs, things definitely are heating up! I got a photo of my first Monarch for the year also, looking pretty tattored.

Congrats spaceman, I was getting sick of waiting so I went to a lake with a waystation and plucked a few Saturday. But our patch was finally discovered Sunday June 5. I haven't looked closely yet but saw 3 eggs from a quick glance.

Most of our common is 3 feet tall and already has the green buds. They love to lay the eggs on those because the cats can easily hide inside.

I can't go too crazy raising monarchs this year because two extra sections of garden take up a lot of time. For a brief moment, I am finally caught up on WEEDING....Yeah!

Congrats! It's so exciting isn't it? I was thrilled last month when I ordered some milkweed and found 4 baby caterpillars. All four survived and were released. It's been a good year so far for Black Swallowtails, I just released my 8th baby today and have 3 more to go. I keep watching each day for new eggs to start a new batch.
