How beautiful! I think mourning cloaks are one of the prettiest butterflies out there!

Last winter or in the very early spring I was visited by a mourning cloak, which was a big thrill for me, since they so rarely ever show up here. I had hoped it would stay and lay eggs, but that didn't happen, at least I never found any caterpillars. I think you're very lucky to have them!

Thanks for posting the great photo. I have seen a total of three monarchs in Madison, so far, this year. We have lots of milkweed, but no eggs, no caterpillars, and no adult monarch butterflies in the past 6 weeks. However, it has been a good year for fireflies. They come out at dusk, all over our neighborhood.

I agree Missherry, Mourning Cloaks are stunning. I saw another Red Spotted Purple today, I saw the blue and thought the Spicebush Swallowtails were here.

Ericwi, I was looking at my milkweed.. again:)... and I saw two tussock moth cats.. they are really cute, plain as a moth. I will gets some pics of them too :)

I have never seen one. It is very beautiful. I think there are very, very few in Florida.

Wonderful shot of a spectacular butterfly. I hardly ever see them here. I have seen exactly 2 in my yard over the past 5 years. Lucky you!!! Thanks for sharing.
