insect's heaven

Now is the time when the ancient Euphorbia E. antiquorum is in bloom. This plant is native where I live and seems to respond to the dry season by putting out flowers. There are multiple insects pollinating them. Up close they have somewhat sweet smell, but from far away it smells like fresh dog faeces!!

An interesting collection of insects you have there. Those flies are like none we have here.

Given the general smell, I'm not sure I would choose to get my nose up close to test for sweetness :)

Those are great photos! That's an amazing assortment of flies you have there! It's also amazing how beautiful and individual all those flies are, when they are just thought of as pests!

Thanks everyone
Forgot to mention that all these insects were found on the same individual plant at about the same time, so give the idea of how effective these flowers are.
