Could be many things. Here are some suggestions to consider.... Environmental factors such as the weather can winter burn browns the edges of the leaves; very cold temps can brown out the buds and some/all leaves.

Additionally, lack of water can also dry out the plant and leaves/buds turn brown. Too much water can cause root rot (roots should be white not brown) and the plant dies showing symptoms similar to yours.

Finally, a fungal disease called Dieback can cause this problem; to treat this, prune affected areas remembering to sterilize in alcohol 'tween cuts; dispose of plant material and use a systemic fungicide.

To see if the plant is still alive, you can prune a piece close the end of the stem to see if it is still green. Check the American Camellia Society Website for more info.

I have the exact same problem with the exact same variety. Some of the flowers are very large and nice (and facing the house, but oh well), while the browning leaves and flowers face the street. I don't think in my case it is from being too dry, and I'd hate to think that it could be the fungus route. I did lose a fair number of blooms that seem to have just dropped off. Hopefully pruning is the answer. Is now the time?

My April remembered has done well this year. What is the size of the plants. Larger ones are more cold-hardy. Asymmetric browning could be due to too much sun exposure in winter early Spring.
