I did not find it in the nomenclature books, but perhaps, it is a new cultivar. Where did you find the information on it? I would contact the grower who could possibly give you some information as to what to look for and what disease it is prone to.

Unless you're talking about another problem it's not a camellia disease specifically, it's sudden oak death.

The cultivar is a patented invention.

"The new variety was discovered in 1991 as a seedling in a controlled planting of Camellia tsaii var. synaptica in Kawasguchi City, Japan. `ELINA CASCADE` differs from its parent and all other varieties of Camellia tsaii var. synaptica known to the inventor in having pink flower buds and flowers with petals having pink bases, and a pendulous, weeping growth habit."

Bboy, thanks for the information. I assume not all camellias are prone to sudden oak death. But Is this something that could spread to neighboring camellias?

If you google Elina Cascade, as I should have done earlier, you will find information on your plant.

Maybe just able to be infected rather than likely to be infected. SOD is said to attack many different kinds of trees and shrubs. It could become quite a problem eventually.

An authority on water molds told me awhile back it was too late to contain it. The cat is out of the bag, we just have to see what develops. Do a web search to find out more about it. There has been plenty of news coverage. Wikipedia has developed pages on it. And so on.
