Fess Up!

We spent the afternoon at my favourite nursery today and came home with a trunkload of goodies!

My flirtation with "winter sowing" missed the mark and the soothing feeling of the greenhouses went straight to my head, anyone else succombing to the sirens call? M

Some of the retail nurseries in the Montreal area are starting to receive their new stock for the season.
A good part of the space is still empty, in some cases, but I was very impressed by the new stuff that did show up.
I bought a half-dozen different kinds of Junipers (some creepers and one vase-shaped one), and one dwarf Norway spruce, for the alpine garden I'm working on, in my back yard.
Its really great when you get to pick the best specimens, before anyone else !
I also have a bunch of stuff on order from the west coast that is not available locally (due to arrive in early May), but of course its a treat when you can pick & choose your selection right there on the spot.

lol! It's funny how those pesky plants just jump into my cart at the store! They just will not leave people alone!

Sheryl: Do you mean that happens to you as well??? I feel much better now.

I went on Tuesday of last week to Niagara to pick up my rose order for this year & what do you know, 6 more jumped right into the truck while I was not looking!!!!
    Funny how that happens.

They not only "jump"into my cart, they have my charge card and pin number.....what chance does a sucker like me have? LOL M

None, Mora! No chance at all!! LOL!!

I don't know why, but in the last couple of years things haven't been jumping in my cart. This year will be the same. Lots to do around the property to get it where I want it in a few years, and I've come to realize that there's other work to be done vs buying new things which I've not planned.

Last year I kept to buying a Silver Lace Vine, Climbing Hydrangea, and more Phlox Paniculatas. I was really proud of myself.

And then there's the winter sowing... I always do too much of that. Lots of plants there!!

I was at my local greenhouse last weekend, and somehow 18 new perennials managed to come home with me. There was a 6 for $10 sale and my DH failed to hide the flier from me!!

I played hooky from working in the garden and greenhouse yesterday afternoon and went for a nice, long motorcycle ride. The weather was so beautiful! But somehow the bike ended up in St. Marys at the Castle Garden store and a large, cast iron amillary (sundial) strapped itself to the passenger seat and came home with me. :)
It looks so very nice in my garden, mounted on a cement pillar I made by upending an antique lawn roller.

I really wanted to get a cement Buddha too but that would have been TOO weird riding home with him as my passenger. hehe

I am soooo bad! I went back to Castle Garden yesterday and bought the Buddha. I brought him home in my truck though. :)

Wyndy, Good on you.....but truck or not,the image of Buddha on the back of your bike is firmly etched on my mind! LOL M

You should totally have taken the Buddha home on the bike (or in a sidecar)! With a helmet on of course :-)

So far I have been good. I haven't been out to my favourite nursery, and the plant market really close to me has learned their lesson about setting up too early - it got zapped by frost for three years running. You can't set up an outdoor market in April!! So I haven't been tempted. Yet.

I think that much of the garden budget will have to go towards replacing the chairs and maybe the table. They're cheap things and they are one breath short of dead. Gotta watch for the sales!
