Can it go behind your garage?

Sorry, I should have put up a pic of the back of the house also to give perspective. I was think maybe behind the garage where the garden is now, but not sure if it would block kitchen window

He isn't super handy. He just wants to buy a pre-fabricated shed, but maybe butted up against the back of the garage?

Sigh, I agree. Between a stubborn husband and all of our money going to tons of updates we are doing inside, I'm about ready to tear my hair out. Great advice about trellises, vines and windows!

Some more great ideas! Thank you! We've only been in the house since the end of June. We inherited the deck color and already bought paint and ready for a non humid weekend. Shutters are already on my list. So far inside we've painted almost every room. It was all bright white. We are getting an old tile floor in the kitchen replaced and replacing old laminate countertops. We are also getting the master bathroom updated and remodeled. Plus small updates all through. It was built in 1988 and pretty sure it has all of the original fixtures etc. We have our hands full for sure! Maybe I can get him to delay the shed until next year.

Definitely go with an extension to the back of the garage. Perhaps you could convince the hubby to change some of the dollar priorities. A prefab plunked in the back yard is going to look pretty nasty.

If you tied a 10 by 12 shed onto the back of your garage, you don't lose your window or the place to put your air conditioning. You actually gain a little protected courtyard 12 feet wide or so for an herb garden or a cut flower garden. Garages are usually 22 x22 and yours actually looks bigger than that. I imagine something like this, but with 2 solid doors that look more like barn door. Second one down on the list. The second link is plans showing the correct gable orientation. You do NOT need an architect. You might wish to hire a handyman/builder type and work alongside him. You'll want to check and see what your local restrictions are first. Good Luck.

HI -- Great house and you have a huge yard , so there is lots of room for a shed . Sheds don't have to be eyesores . I would put a shed just off the back of your garage but not attached to it . Have a look at this source for plans and or prefab sheds. Modernsheds.com This is also featured on Houzz

Most people think first to put a shed way in the back of the yard, but it isn't very convient. Where I live there are companies that make really nice looking wood sheds that sit on concrete blocks. I had one for years at my former house and it worked out so well. It had double doors in the center and it was easy to store all kinds of seasonal equipment.

I'd suggest that you hire a landscape architect who would help you plan a more interesting back yard. The shed could be a charming feature in a good design. You don't have to do everything at once, but placing the shed will be difficult to change later.

Pre fab doesn't have to mean aluminum. There are some great choices, as in this picture, of what you could have. You also could tuck a shed into existing shrubbery.

I agree with others that the shed shouldn't be attached or very close to your garage. I don't know where you live, but Kloter Farms http://www.kloterfarms.com/ has a large selection of shed styles, sizes and materials. You could, at least, get some ideas from their website. It would look the best if it was incorporated into your landscaping.

Would you also be storing snow removal equipment in the shed? If so, this might influence the placement decision.

If you choose a very attractive prefab unit then it becomes a feature of the property and adds much more value in addition to being more appealing to use. Given that you already have a great home I suggest added a great prefab unit rather than just a cheap unit that will look cheap and be not very attractive no matter where you put it.
