I suggest you place your new rhizome in a container and allow it to grow for as long as possible. I would also advise you (if possible) to store the new plant in the container you grow it in. In zone 7 we hopefully have a couple of months for growth and if freezing weather would occur early you could move the container into a protected area. Trying to winter store a small rhizome such as what you have will be difficult. Allow it to produce and store as much energy as possible between now and the coming winter.
