Help! I just suddenly received from a friend 7 dwarf crape myrtles about 2 feet tall. One even has flowers which I am going to cut off. They are from the roots of the mother.

The main root is about half inch in diameter with just 2 tiny side roots. I have it in water for now.

Should I just make a new cut diagonally or should I smash just the end of the root for more moisture absorption. As expected it is wilting. (I would also if cut like that.)

Should I just pot it up immediately and keep in mostly shade and moist soil or what should I do???
