That's right, Tammy, there are pros and cons on both. The First Amendment is alive and well here, but so is search and seizure. Over there, it's one of those overzealous webmasters behind the curtain...passing judgment on our every comma,upper case letter, and colorful, but OT aside. Oy vay. Kinda like sun vs. shade, something will thrive in each, but do not interplant your hostas with sunflowers.

When I read the TOS, I noted at the bottom the section where it says what STATE is the point of original jurisdiction for Dave's Garden... TEXAS -- ACK! :)

I've been a member of Dave's for over a year. I paid because I felt grateful for the garden watchdog service. I can't tell you how many hundreds of dollars I have spent on bad seed. Since I have been using the garden watchdog, I have been able to find quality sources for quality seed. The plant files are great too. I use both sites. I do like sharing my ideas as methods. I don't like to be handing copyright to someone else as I do it. I don't like the thought that someone else can sue me for using my own data. As a result I may give simple advice or imput on this site. I give much more detailed responses on Dave's. When I post a photo on Dave's, I still own the photo.

Personally, I cannot tell much difference in their terms or service agreements. Both say they reserve the right to your stuff...and both say they are not going to devulge any of your personal info to anyone. (so what are they doing with it?) Most sites now have that same agreement and some are much worse.

I don't like the form there at Dave's. It makes me feel like I am boxed in to each forum, and I cannot move about the site as freely as I can on here. It seems too clickish. Not my bag!

I tried to post comments on other forums at Dave's and got a message each time that only paying members could post. So it says it is Free to join, but not to participate. Pish posh!
I'll stick with GW.

GW has so many wonderful forums and most of the people are good folks. A few are rather snooty and seem to be more hung up on proper terminology than the free-love of enjoying growing things, but you will find them out in the world too. It's not my bag, but hey, whatever turns your crank!

Of course it is important with so many different species (varieties) of flowers & plants out there, and more being bred or discovered every day, that we learn their botanical names, so that when we buy or trade seeds for something, like 'Black Ball Bachelor's Buttons', we can feel confident that we shall get the correct variety of Centaurea cyanus.{{gwi:555165}}Happy Gardening!
