Carolina Gardening

Any recommendations for vines?

Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie when it comes to gardening in North Carolina. We recently purchased a house in the Fayetteville area and we have a long and tall chain link fence in our backyard that I would love to cover up with a vine. I was considering a few options but I would love to hear from you all on any recommendations and/or any vines to avoid. The vines I am considering are Madison Confederate Jasmine or Clematis. Any thoughts?

bignonia grows nice and dense and is pretty much evergreen, flowering once during the year as I recall. It's a good spreader but like jasmine has to be trained to grow sideways when it wants to grow upwards.

Is Jasmine an evergreen as well or will our winter kill it back? I have only ever seen it growing in South Florida and it stayed green year around there.
