Guessing game

I have 4 Butterfly x OP seedlings that are going to bloom this year...........or else!! LOL! OP means we don't know who the daddy is! Dan O., a member of BGI, is the hybridizer.

Well, one is about to bloom and no kidding, this is a double, so daddy was a double, probably!!!

Ya wanna guess what color this one will be?

Doubles are slow, so may take a few days to color up .......... or will it stay white?

With Butterfly as the pod parent I'll guess pink too. My Butterfly is one of my only brugs I can count on to be naturally pollinated. I'm not sure why but it's produced pods for the past 3 years and I've never hand pollinated it.

Oh, poo, everybody, I went home and looked last night and it is WHITE!! No peach and, Lucy, no Purple this time!! LOL!

You probably think I'm silly right, I mean it is a double and looks to stay pure white!
If we didn't have a bunch of double-white named brugs out there in brugdom, I might be happier. Well, I'll let it bloom out the season. Looks like the second skirt is dropping nicely !

    Thanks, all, for your interest.
Now, I'm keeping an eye on the double-deep pink seedling from Mon Amor de Murieul x Shooting Star- looking promising!

Hey gottahosta, you sure are a peach. Your b-day is right between mine and mama's too(20th and 28th). I am from Brunswick, spent alot of time in Hortense as a boy. I've been in VA for 12 years now. My heart will always be in GA though. Sorry the flower let you down. How is the smell? Are the doubles typically stronger?

Hey givelittle getlots, I'll send you my email tonight. Got some roots in Texas too, little town called frionna a couple hours west of amarillo. Thank you and no hard feelings if you dont get around to it. I'm sure your cuttings are spread pretty thin. Not to mention I broke the rules :)

Brandon don't be silly!! send that e mail :-)

Pinkish, peachish, yellowish, but kinda whiteish Brandy

    Am I right????

    Brandon

The double-white seedling is nice, it just is not exceptional. There are already lots of registered double whites.

Ah, Georgia! Guessing I'll end out my days here in Georgia! And, boy, if you were still in Brunswick, you could grow some fine brugs, in zone 8!! They grow just great in VA, too! Ask Edna!

Shawn, ya got the color nailed- you are already an old hand at what to expect when you start growing brug seeds!

    yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh to our Shawn ;-)

Sorry Brenda that it was a different color :-(

    Hugs

    peachy pink :D

If a brug is a color or blossom shape you don't like but has other outstanding characteristics, it would be worth keeping as breeding stock, would it not?

I'm really busy this morning, but wanted to let y'all see the final "product", in the form of the second blossom of this seedling. Better ....... but no cigar! LOL!

    Have a wonderful Saturday!

Brenda thanks for taking the time to solve the mystery what it looks like at the end. Wow the second skirt really dropped down a LOT.

Even if it has great characteristics...like virus resistant etc...Not sure if anybody would buy a white brug if they have one already just because it is great otherwise. I think most might look at the color and shape first before they look into heat tolerance etc.

Brenda do I have that somewhat right?

    Lucy

Lucy, I sent you an email Please let me know if you didn't get it.

gottahosta, yeah hopefully I'll end mine there too. DGF says we can retire there so just 31 years to go :) I do plan on giving my step mom a cutting of my brug this Thanksgiving so atleast I can still grow one in Brunswick too

Brandon I got it but since I get so many mails...it always takes me a while sometimes to answer...especially on the WE. I guess I THOUGHT I answered...must have been here at the forum lol Sorry
