Joe pye weed (Eupatorium purpureum), Ironweed (Vernonia altissima), and some type of Helianthus.

Aster tataricus, Helianthus, Cannas, and some Hedychium.

Definitely Helianthus angustifolius- Swamp Sunflower. Hibiscus coccineus and lots of Hibiscus hybrids- "Red Flyer' has been outstanding for me.

Confederate Rose (Hibiscus mutabilis)...almost gets to be a small tree but it gets cut back annually.

Ruellia brittoniana, Mexican Petunia, (purple) gets tall but it may not get to 5 ft. It likes full sun but may need some extra protection through the winter. I covered mine with leaves and the boughs of my Christmas tree and it survived the winter.

sunchokes..my goodness no matter how many I dig out it seems I've missed some and every year I get 8-10 foot tall helianthus grove because I was thoughtless in dumping these on the compost pile.
In full sun, they aren't quite as tall. Mine are shaded until they hit at least 6'. Hibiscus are great but don't they want a bit of shade? I love Joe Pye weed but it tends to flop over so plan on staking or surrounding them or they'll cover their neighbors.

Everyone will think I'm crazy for this suggestion but a Knock Out Rose. I have 6 shrubs that are 6 plus feet. Drives me crazy that the tag still reads 3'. Wow, did they miss the boat on that one.
