I'd take a shot and be sure to hold back some of the seeds just in case. And, have a hoop set up over the baby plants if we do get a couple days of arctic weather here.

We are Mere Mortals in the hands of Divine Providence. Therefore, we cannot forecast the weather with any real accuracy. However, it is generally assumed that Income Tax Day is the date after which it's unlikely that we will have a killing frost in the Southeast. (Knock on wood.)

Most common perennials in this area need some cold stratification to sprout, which is why winter sowing is so popular. Therefore, most people sow perennial seeds either in the fall or half way through the winter and let mother nature handle the cold treatment.

This is the time of year to sow some of the common annuals - the things that tend to bloom early in the year. For the warm weather annuals (summer blooomers) you need to wait til nights are a little bit warmer - but maybe just a week or two more.

70 degrees is the magic number for most plants. Even the things that seem to like cooler temps - it takes the cold nights to signal the seed to sprout but the main sprouting is done during a warm week with daytime highs in the 70's.

Thanks, everyone! I bit the bullet and planted baby snapdragon, blanketflower, phlox, and CA poppy. I know I am taking a chance...but I am not sure of the source of my seeds anyway, so I figure I'll replace them if they don't show sprouting soon. :)
