cherry laurel problem

I planted around 17 cherry laurels last summer (07). A few of them are now showing problem signs and one has even died at the top. The first signs are a reddish-brown edge on the leaves that turns to reddish-purple spots all over the leaf. The leaves turn a lighter shade of green and then once the spots overtake the leave it turns red and dies. This seems to happen from the top of the plant to the bottom and skips plants (in the row of hedges). I don't want to lose any more! Anyone know what is causing this?

When were they planted? (which month)

How have you watered since then? (please be specific -- method: hose, sprinkler, and/or drip; how often and how long?)

If not applied directly to the rootball, that's the problem.

Beyond that, can you post an image?

I believe that is "Shot-hole" disease, a leaf spot type of disease. Here is some information on it:
