The netting works. You will have to keep re-adjusting it as your plants grow to give them some head room.

I must tell you this story in case you live near a wooded area. I had some netting over hydrangeas at a previous home. One day I went outside and found TWO black snakes tangled up in the net. My wonderful husband rescued both of the snakes using heavy gloves and my garden kneeling pad as a shield (that they bit repeatedly). Although not poisonous, they do bite. The last time we saw the pair they were headed out for safety in the woods!

I've had 2 or 3 snakes (a black racer, a hognose and i don't recall what the other one was)get caught in that netting as well, which we use to net our ponds in winter. I careful unentangled all of them, tail end first. No bites or trauma to any of the parties. The black racer was really, really tangled- i had to cut a lot of the netting to get him out in one piece.

We're going to use the same netting as a fence- problem is they can't see it so you have to mark it at first. They've run through it & torn it down now 3x. We need sturdier posts and some colorful tape for a while.

I also use the same stuff to net my fruit for birds and it works great.
